{"id":316,"date":"2007-06-07T10:58:48","date_gmt":"2007-06-07T16:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hippiemommy.com\/2007\/06\/07\/gods-will-be-done\/"},"modified":"2007-06-07T10:58:48","modified_gmt":"2007-06-07T16:58:48","slug":"gods-will-be-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hippiemommy.com\/?p=316","title":{"rendered":"God&#8217;s will be done"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/rcm.amazon.com\/e\/cm?t=hippiemommy-20&amp;o=1&amp;p=8&amp;l=as1&amp;asins=0060850000&amp;fc1=000000&amp;IS2=1&amp;lt1=_blank&amp;lc1=0000FF&amp;bc1=000000&amp;bg1=FFFFFF&amp;f=ifr\" style=\"width: 120px; height: 240px\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Last night I had a terrible nightmare that included one of my children being hurt.\u00c2\u00a0 The thought of my children hurting is a million times worse than the thought of my own hurt.\u00c2\u00a0 Even if I consider the possibility of my own death, the part that pains me the most is the pain that my children would feel.<\/p>\n<p>So I awoke from my nightmare and started praying a drunkenly-tired prayer, which came out all wrong and only upset me more.\u00c2\u00a0 I am terrible when I am sleepy.\u00c2\u00a0 I know that lots of people do their best prayers at night, but I usually fall asleep trying.\u00c2\u00a0 I try to tell myself that it is like drifting off asleep on the phone with someone you love, but I still feel a twinge of guilt for falling asleep to the almighty King.\u00c2\u00a0 I checked on the kids and kissed them on their cheeks.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I came back to bed and asked Joe to pray with me.\u00c2\u00a0 My feeble attempt at a prayer had basically been one of protection.\u00c2\u00a0 Joe started praying, and his was all about the will of God.\u00c2\u00a0 I was struck by how his life experiences, including the death of his sister, have obviously given him a more mature perspective on prayer.\u00c2\u00a0 He also prayed that God protect the kids, but his focus was just so different than my focus.<\/p>\n<p>After his prayer, I fell asleep easily (and wasn&#8217;t crying anymore).\u00c2\u00a0 I woke up this morning and decided finish Facing East by Frederica Mathewes-Green.\u00c2\u00a0 I have learned so much from this book, and it has been great to get an insider&#8217;s view of orthodoxy.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m still not convinced that it would ever be a fit for me, but I view orthodoxy very differently than I did before I started.\u00c2\u00a0 I can also see how the desire for something more rooted and historical could lead a person to an Eastern Orthodox church.\u00c2\u00a0 For me this desire has led to my Jewish roots, but I think that the basic desire for depth is the same.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the chapters that I read today, she talks about what she will pray for in the upcoming year,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As C. S. Lewis says of the Christ-figure Aslan in the Narnia tales, &#8220;It&#8217;s not like he&#8217;s a tame lion.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 All over the world, millions of times a day, people are praying, &#8220;Thy will be done.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And I think I can dispute that?\u00c2\u00a0 Like, &#8220;Oh, I&#8217;m an exception.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 If I&#8217;m stubborn enough, I can get my will done instead?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t it interesting that I was just thinking the same thing earlier today?\u00c2\u00a0 It really is humbling.\u00c2\u00a0 The truth is that if my dream were God&#8217;s will, then I&#8217;d have to accept it.\u00c2\u00a0 I think I can get really sucked into our whole name-it-and-claim-it inspired brand of Christianity that does not reflect the truth of God&#8217;s character at all.\u00c2\u00a0 I know many earnest Christians who did not want to die or be hurt and yet it still happened.\u00c2\u00a0 Desire doesn&#8217;t change it.\u00c2\u00a0 At least I can rest knowing that God knows best and that I do not need to fear.\u00c2\u00a0 Letting go is a tough lesson though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I had a terrible nightmare that included one of my children being hurt.\u00c2\u00a0 The thought of my children hurting is a million times worse than the thought of my own hurt.\u00c2\u00a0 Even if I consider the possibility of my own death, the part that pains me the most is the pain that my [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-316","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-faith"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.0 -
