I started this book in 2012, when I was active in the slow fashion scene in San Francisco/Oakland. Since then, I’ve moved back to Colorado, raised 4 kids, and a lot has changed in my life.
For me, it was nice to finish this book and remind myself of my values. I really liked the last few chapters. I appreciated her focus on using your clothing for self-expression and wearing what you like, not just what’s in style. We all know this, but it is easy to forget.
Any book like this will suffer from the inherent privilege that it takes to make/buy better (more expensive) clothing. Sure, you can thrift, but that still takes the privilege of time, especially as thrift stores fill with fast fashion that is poorly made.
Overall, I’m glad I read it and glad I finished it. It was a quick read and gave me a much-needed nudge.
